Impacting Kids’ Lives Through Youth Mentorship
Kicking Bear has two main priorities:
- To share the Gospel so every boy and girl knows they have a God in Heaven who loves them and has a plan for their life.
- To invest in kids’ lives through one-on-one mentorship.
This fall, Kicking Bear’s mentorship teams have been pouring into the lives of their mentees by spending intentional time together in God’s creation. It has been incredible to witness the impact God is making in the hearts, minds, and lives of the boys and girls who are part of the Kicking Bear Mentorship family.
Earlier this year, we restructured Kicking Bear’s Mentorship Program to ensure we are truly hitting the bullseye—focusing on meaningful, lasting relationships that reflect Christ’s love.
At its core, mentorship guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in facing life’s challenges, and helps them see that they matter. Research shows that quality mentoring relationships have powerful, positive effects on young people across personal, academic, and professional areas. Ultimately, mentorship connects a young person to personal growth, spiritual development, and opportunity.
Each Kicking Bear mentor and mentee now sign a written commitment to be part of each other’s lives for at least one year. Mentors agree to participate in an outdoor activity with their mentee at least once per month while striving to guide them spiritually. The results have been powerful—God is clearly at work through these relationships.
We are deeply thankful for the many men and women volunteering their time to serve as Kicking Bear mentors. They are faithfully standing in the gap, walking alongside their mentees through their adolescent years, and pointing them toward their Heavenly Father.
